Chua's Circuit

An analog electronic circuit that displays a rich variety of chaotic behaviour, including the famous double-scroll attractor.

Circuit Equations

Using nondimensionalised variables, Chua's circuit can be modelled by:

dx/dt = α (y − x − f(x))
dy/dt = x − y + z
dz/dt = −β y

Where f(x) is Chua's piecewise-linear nonlinear resistor.

Why It Matters

Chua's circuit is one of the simplest physical systems capable of true chaos, making it a staple in chaos theory research and education.
